The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a Class I recall—the most serious type—for approximately 12,000 pounds of organic blueberries produced by Alma Pak International in Atlanta, Georgia. The recall was initiated after routine facility testing detected Listeria monocytogenes, a harmful bacteria that can cause severe illness.

The affected blueberries Recall were distributed under the lot codes 13325 G1060 and 13325 G1096.

Why This Recall Is Critical

A Class I FDA recall indicates a high risk of serious health consequences or death from exposure to the contaminated product. Listeria infection (listeriosis) can lead to:

  • Fever, muscle aches, and diarrhea

  • Severe illness in pregnant women, including miscarriage

  • Life-threatening infections in newborns, elderly, or immunocompromised individuals

How the Contamination Was Discovered

During routine testing on June 9, we found the deadly bacteria listeria in organic blueberries at Alma Pak International.No illnesses have been reported so far, but health officials warn of a potential risk due to the bacteria’s long incubation period (up to 70 days).
